Jeffrey R. Strawn, MD, FAACAP
Overview: Dopamine receptor blocking agents are commonly used in pediatric practice, but their use requires careful balancing of efficacy, tolerability, developmental considerations, and long-term safety. In this presentation, Dr. Jeffrey Strawn will review evidence-based use of DRBAs in youth, including FDA-approved and common off-label indications, receptor profiles, and clinically relevant differences among agents. He will also discuss pediatric safety considerations, including metabolic risk, prolactin effects, drug-induced movement disorders, and monitoring strategies. Finally, he will provide practical prescribing pearls for selecting, switching, tapering, and reassessing DRBAs in pediatric patients.
