Next, Dr. Jonathan Meyer presented practical and useful knowledge about clinical decision making using pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of antipsychotics, including long-acting injectable formulations. His presentation titled “Pragmatic Precision Psychiatry: Utilizing Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics to Optimize Antipsychotic Treatment,” emphasized that measurement, whether it be antipsychotic drug levels or symptoms, is critical for personalized treatment and to optimize patient outcomes.
Finally, Dr. Manpreet Singh delivered the presentation “Precision Mental Health: Using Biotypes to Personalize Treatment Selection for Mood Disorders,” which demonstrated how neuroimaging can be useful in precision psychiatry. Neuroimaging data may be used to define biotypes, or groups of individuals who have different symptom-linked neural features. Validation of biotypes is ongoing and can likely lead to novel and targeted treatments for patients suffering from psychiatric disorders.
