Today we acknowledge and celebrate Juneteenth, commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Juneteenth represents freedom and justice for Black Americans, and in recognition of that, we are encouraging our staff, faculty, and members to use the day for celebration, education, and reflection. Cultural knowledge and identity are important determinants of treatment outcomes in mental health, and we reinforce how important promoting mental health equity is for the Black community and our society at large. Culturally informed and responsive mental health professionals are critical for the delivery of quality mental health care. At NEI, we are continuing to intentionally create culturally competent mental health educational content and resources that more closely connects us to all our members and the patients they serve. We strive to embrace diversity in all its forms and acknowledge this is a lifelong dedication to reflection and learning.
