November is Alzheimer's Awareness Month. NEI would like to thank all the caregivers, and mental health providers who care for patients with Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer’s disease is a terrible disorder that affects much of the older population. Unfortunately, Alzheimer’s disease is often under-recognized and treatment options are limited. In addition to the hallmark cognitive symptoms of Alzheimer’s dementia, most patients also develop neuropsychiatric symptoms, including agitation. The neuronal networks and corresponding treatments for agitation associated with Alzheimer’s dementia differ from those for memory or other symptoms.
