CARLSBAD, Ca., (August 8, 2022) – As further demonstration of its commitment to providing high-quality, evidence-based, and cutting-edge education to improve patient care, Neuroscience Education Institute (NEI) announced today that preeminent psychiatrist Roger McIntyre, MD, FRCPC will join its scientific advisory board. In this role, Dr. McIntyre will serve as chair for national and global meetings, develop new educational content and platforms, and provide continuing medical education presentations exclusively at NEI live and virtual events.

Since its founding in 2000 by award-winning author and psychiatrist Stephen M. Stahl, MD, PhD, DSc (Hon.), NEI has provided practical education to help increase the competence of healthcare professionals in the diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric and neurologic disease states. The company’s educational programs consist of annual hybrid conferences—NEI Congress and NEI Synapse, virtual meetings—NEI Saturday Morning Live, and a plethora of online CME activities and clinical resources, including the Master Psychopharmacology Program.

“Dr. Roger McIntyre is truly a fantastic addition to the NEI team,” said Dr. Stahl. “He is a brilliant clinician and researcher, one of the most highly cited investigators in psychiatry anywhere in the world, and a spellbinding lecturer who will play a large role in furthering our commitment to providing the highest quality educational experience for healthcare professionals worldwide.”

Andrew Cutler, MD, Chief Medical Officer at NEI, cannot wait to work alongside Dr. McIntyre. “I am thrilled that Roger McIntyre is joining our scientific advisory board,” he said. “He is one of the most accomplished psychiatrists and thought leaders in our field, and I look forward to collaborating with and learning from him for years to come.”

Dr. McIntyre is currently a Professor of Psychiatry and Pharmacology at the University of Toronto where he has received several teaching awards and is also Executive Director of the Brain and Cognition Discovery Foundation in Toronto, Canada.

A leader in research, Dr. McIntyre was named one of “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds” by Thomson Reuters. Dr. McIntyre is involved in multiple research endeavors which primarily aim to characterize the phenomenology, neurobiology, and novel therapeutics of mood disorders. He has been especially interested in identifying innovative, rapid acting psychotropic treatments for mood disorders.

He is extensively involved in medical education and has annually spoken at NEI events since 2014. Dr. McIntyre has also published hundreds of peer-reviewed articles and has edited and/or co-edited several textbooks on mood disorders.
